Newsday (N.Y.): Bill Haas shoots 64 to lead at Riviera

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- There's a statue of Ben Hogan next to the practice green. There are photos of Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Gregory Peck and Katherine Hepburn on the walls of the old Spanish style clubhouse. Riviera Country Club is a site of history, and Bill Haas is trying to create more.

Haas, the defending champion, shot a 7-under par 64 Saturday and took a 3-shot lead after three rounds of the Northern Trust Open.

Global Golf Post: Haas Plays Safe And Is Not Sorry

PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIFORNIA -- Jack Nicklaus said he "loved option holes," and the beguiling 10th at Riviera Country Club, only 315 yards long, with a rolling green surrounded by bunkers, was one of his favorites. Bill Haas would like to second the motion.

Haas knocked in a 45-foot birdie putt Sunday at the 10th, the second hole of a three-way sudden-death playoff, to beat Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley and win the Northern Trust Open.

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA — Hunter Mahan went to sleep on an eagle Saturday night at the Farmers Open and woke up to a double-bogey Sunday morning. He was awake, wasn't he?

A great finish to round three, a three on the par-5 18th at Torrey Pines, tied him for second and put him in the final group with Phil Mickelson and Bill Haas.
