However, the competitive edge is removed under nationalized health care. From what I understand it is doled out like cars might be assembled on a rusted assembly line. Not only that but take the recent incident where Natasha Richardson needed to get an emergency head scan in Canada where health care is nationalized. The scan was delayed because the health care administrators followed the protocol for such an injury and their protocols didnt dictate the kind of extensive medical treatment that would have been given here in the U.S. As a result her brain injury resulted in a fatal deterioration and the fact that the injured was rich, famous and would have gladly paid for treatment beyond the protocols given resulted in a medivac flight to the U.S. regardless of cost and treatment. In the U.S., the NY hospital correctly diagnosed the brain injury. But due to the time ellapsed her condition was irreversable and she died. Had U.S. style emergency medicine been available at the ouset, Natasha would be alive today. But we can only speculate as to what her status and road to recovery could be.
